Three notes to help you pick up your project

Leave your future self a record of where you stopped, the tools you used, and what comes next.

Before putting a knitting or crochet project aside, try leaving a short note with it. These three prompts give you a simple place to start when you pick it up again.

  1. Say exactly where you stopped

Write “Row 12 finished; row 13 next,” separating what is complete from what comes next. If you stop partway through a row, record the position of the last stitch you worked as well.

  2. Note your tools and yarn

Record the type and size of your hook or needles, including millimetres, and the yarn name or colour. Keeping the note with the project is especially helpful when you have several projects on the go.

  3. Leave one next action

Add a reminder such as “Start at row 13 of the pattern.” Check any shaping instructions against the pattern you are following when you return.
